Birds called Zebra Finches perch on an electric guitar at an art installation in the Barbican’s Curve Gallery, London. The installation is a walk through aviary in gallery space inhabited by 40 Zebra Finches, created by French artist Celeste Boursier-Mougenot. The birds fly freely from bass guitars, guitars and cymbals as they feed and perch creating sounds as they move along the instruments which amplify the sounds through loudspeakers.

This was design number 2 of 12 in my exhibit at UMOCA. The inspiration for the materials and colors in this set came from a beautiful photo of some fantastic architecture at a night club. More in this set to come.

This image is one in a set named “Q*bert Club”, a series I designed for my exhibition at the Utah Museum Of Contemporary Art (UMOCA) which ran from September 19th until October 16th, 2014.

Pink Balloons Saturate French Courtyard to Create a Pink Haze

At this year’s Lively Architecture Festival in Montpellier, France, designers Margaux Rodot, Mickaël Martin and Benoit Tastet displayed their colorful, youthful and engaging urban installation, called Un Dixieme Printemps (The Tenth Spring) to the public. Named the jury’s winner, Un Dixieme Printemps was set in the Hotel de Griffy’s exquisite courtyard for display. The installation’s interaction with the existing romantic architecture created a whimsical and beautiful dreamscape. Filled with hundreds of pink and white balloons, which were released from nets, the entire space was saturated with a pink haze, which offered happiness and relaxation.

Aside from offering an aesthetically pleasing performance, the piece’s purpose also offers conceptual beauty. It was created as an ode to Japanese culture and aesthetic by the ephemeral beauty of cherry blossoms. Thus, by choosing a pink balloon,  which is recognized as a fleeting object, it also resembles the cherry blossom’s physicality and livelihood. It symbolizes the delicate balance between transition and the passing of time.

Glass Colored Ribbon Hang Inside a Grace Cathedral, Anne Patterson

Walk into the Grace Cathedral in San Francisco from now till the end of February and you’ll find a gorgeous art installation that features 20 miles of ribbon cascading from the church’s vaulted ceiling arches. Artist Anne Patterson is behind Graced With Light, an installation consisting of nearly 1,000 satin ribbons with colors inspired by stained glass. It took the artist months to prepare, which she did in her art studio in Manhattan by constructing a 3/16-inch scale model of it with embroidery floss. Then, on site, it took Patterson and the Grace Cathedral community eight days to hand-assemble the project.

Time Type

Dehli based street artist, DAKU, has produced a dynamic, time sensitive, public art piece for the St+art Festival in India. Over two months 25 artist from around the globe will transform the colonial Lodhi district into the country’s first public art area.

Local artist, DAKU, who remains anonymous, has produced an inventive installation, ‘Time changes everything’, which connects type with the passing of time by using the moving sunlight to cast ever-changing shadows of words onto a wall. 

Over 70 words have been mounted perpendicularly to a building façade to act as sundials. The shadow type sharpens into focus in the mornings revealing english words such as; Identity, Religion, Perception. This shadows stretch and yaw across the façade to later fade away as the light dims in the afternoon.
